About Us
Connecting our community through food & the people who grow it
The Mansfield Farmers’ Market started with a straightforward belief: people should be able to meet the farmer, the baker, the cheesemaker – and know exactly where their food comes from.
Alli Walker of Walker Events held the very first market at Mansfield Primary School in September 2009. What began as a modest gathering of local producers has grown into one of regional Victoria’s most loved market destinations, now drawing over 30 stallholders to the median strip on High Street every fortnight from February to December.
But the numbers aren’t the point. The point is the conversation between a cherry grower and a curious kid. The sourdough baker who’ll tell you exactly what flour she uses and why. The honey producer who knows every hive by name. That’s what makes a true farmers’ market — and that’s what Mansfield has.
Every stallholder is the person who grew it, made it, raised it, or baked it. No resellers. No wholesalers. No in-between. Just honest food and the people behind it.
The market is as much a social occasion as a shopping trip — a friendly Saturday morning ritual for locals, families, and visitors to the High Country. Come for the produce. Stay for the community.
Held in the median strip in High Street between the Post Office and the Delatite Hotel from 8.30am – 1pm on the 2nd & 4th Saturday every month from February to December.
Our Story
Creating a Wholesome Food Community
The Mansfield Farmers’ Market is one part of something bigger.
Walker Events runs a family of experiences throughout the year, each one rooted in the same belief – that food tastes better when you know where it comes from, who grew it, and what landscape it came out of.
That family includes the twice-monthly Mansfield Farmers’ Market, the Mansfield Lantern Festival, and a series of lunches and dinners that celebrate the Put Victoria on Your Table mantra. Each event is different in form but identical in spirit: local ingredients, beautiful environments, and people who care about both.
In the past 16 years, Walker Events has hosted lunches and dinners in machinery sheds, wool sheds, paddocks, up mountains, and yes — inside an inflatable igloo. The setting changes. The philosophy doesn’t. Ingredients are almost always local, sometimes sourced within metres of where you’re sitting, surrounded by the mountains, lakes and wide horizons that define Victoria’s High Country.
Behind it all is Alli Walker – a former health and education professional whose passion for sustainable, environmentally conscious living isn’t something she arrived at later in life. It’s always been the starting point. Further qualifications in event management and tourism have added to the toolkit, but the drive remains the same: to create experiences that are as good for the community and the environment as they are for the people attending them.
Sustainability isn’t an afterthought here. It’s the first thought. Always has been.
